Jake Hayes

I'm an audio describer based in the south west. I trained with Roz Chalmers from The National Theatre audio description team in 2021 on a programme supported by Arts Council England for Theatre Royal, Bath.

I've been working in theatres across the south west ever since, regularly describing shows and running touch tours at the Bristol Old Vic since 2022. I've also worked on for the Tobacco Factory in Bristol and The Mayflower Southampton, describing classic and contemporary theatre, musicals, ballet and family shows. I'm happy to work alone or with another describer and am interested in expanding my practice into other areas, such as audio guides, museums, visual arts and gardens.

As a former TV producer for BBC Arts, I'm also technically proficient and have provided pre-recorded AD for the Bristol Old Vic. Earlier in my career I worked for three years at BBC radio Bristol where I acted as assistant producer and guide to a blind producer. This led to working with the RNIB as a guide for deafblind people in the Bristol area.
